Business Results
15%+ retention on-site areas containing interactive map
Increased site visits
Factal's user growth had plateaued due to an overwhelming and intimidating user interface. The All tab, the entry point for most users, was cluttered with unstructured data, scaring off newcomers.
To revitalize Factal's All tab by leveraging data insights. We aimed to create a more customizable and engaging experience that would boost user retention and drive growth.
Old System
The old tile layout felt cluttered and disjointed. Users had to juggle multiple tabs to read different articles, interrupting their flow.
Our design team revolutionized this by:
Prioritizing user experience: We introduced an intuitive map design that encourages exploration and customization.
Streamlining navigation: Now, users can easily skim articles that pique their interest without leaving the current page.

Option 2
Layout Ideation
Our A/B tests uncovered a key insight: users naturally follow a left-to-right reading pattern. This led to a significant preference for layout A, where users seamlessly transitioned from headline to details, and ultimately, to the map.
Solution
Introducing the 'More' option – a streamlined way to access deeper information directly from each tile, enhancing user flow.
As for the intuitive map system, the map is able to make the entire globe explorable for the user.
We empowered users with an intuitive map filter system. Categories like region, severity level, updates, and topic allow for customized map views, providing a tailored and insightful experience.
Reflection
Post-launch surveys validated our hypothesis: visualizing geological locations on a map, color-coded by severity level, significantly enhances user comprehension of the magnitude and impact of the event.
Encourage cross-functional efforts from departments outside the development team
This project marked my first foray into collaborating with a sales team. Engaging with users across the spectrum, from individual customers to large enterprises, provided invaluable insights that shaped the project's direction.
